Seahawks 24 Arizona 26

The Seahawks playoff hopes officially came to an end when the Atlanta Falcons finished off a victory over the Carolina Panthers Sunday afternoon. A few minutes later, Seattle’s chance at a 10-win season also came up short, as the Arizona Cardinals held on for a 26-24 win over the Seahawks.

Even if Blair Walsh’s final field goal attempt had been good to give Seattle a win, the result in Atlanta would have meant the Seahawks missing the postseason for the first time since 2011 and only the second time since Pete Carroll and John Schneider took over the team in 2010.

Fairytale Of New York

The Pogues

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, won’t see another one
And then he sang a song
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I’ve got a feeling
This year’s for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

They’ve got cars big as bars
They’ve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It’s no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing “Galway Bay”
And the bells were ringing out
For Christmas day

You’re a bum
You’re a punk
You’re an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it’s our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can’t make it all alone
I’ve built my dreams around you

idles

I heard about this band today on the radio. Looking at them on you tube I found a track called Mother. It reminded me so much of my HAPPYNING. on the video the singer stands in front of a table of what appear to be his mothers bits n bobs and proceeds to smash them and sing lyrics which to me ring with anger.

It all appeared to be so much like my own emotional release of my own mother when at art collage (except I did not show so much anger!)  I wanted to share it here. I don’t really like the way they deliver but I will look deeper into their music to see what else they are saying.

Idles has its roots in the Batcave club night in Bristol, ran by singer Joe Talbot and bassist Adam Devonshire, who met while at college in Exeter, eventually deciding to start a band. According to Talbot, “It took us a long time to get productive because we didn’t know what the fuck we were doing at all, we were fucking terrible for a long time.” The band’s first release was the Welcome EP in 2012. By 2014 the band comprised Talbot, Devonshire, guitarists Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan, and drummer Jon Beavis. They released a second EP, Meat, and Meta, an EP of remixes, in 2015, and then started writing songs for their debut album.

After the 2016 singles “Well Done” and “Divide & Conquer”, the band’s first album, Brutalism, was released in March 2017 to critical acclaim.

DIY magazine, gave it 4 stars, calling it “An exhilarating escape along frenzied rhythms and powerhouse rhythms with a ferocious commentary for guidance…as vital as it is volatile.” The Line of Best Fit website gave it 9/10, calling Idles “one of the most exciting British bands right now”. It got 8/10 from PopMatters, with Ian King calling it “bracing, caustic, and relentless”. Uncut gave it a similarly positive review, calling it “A rare rock record with the rage, urgency, wit and shattering of complacency usually found in grime.” Talbot’s mother died after a long illness while the band was working on the album, and is pictured on the cover, along with a sculpture by Talbot and his father.

Her death gave Talbot and the band a new focus. They toured to support Brutalism, and supported The Maccabees on the London shows of their farewell tour, followed by several festival appearances throughout Europe, and began working on their second album.

Often described as post punk, Talbot rejects the label, saying in June 2017 “We’re not a post punk band. I guess we have that motorik, engine-like drive in the rhythm section that some post punk bands have but we have plenty of songs that aren’t like that at all.”

Hanger Lane

This time of year passes by without achieving anything
It is like hibernation
It is like a loop
Hanger Lane
Hanger Lane
Hanger Lane
It’s on the very edge of something
It’s at the beginning and the end of something
Night drags its feet
Darkness invades the light
As hard as I try the day ends before achieving anything
The curtains are pulled shut
Hanger Lane
Hanger Lane
Hanger Lane
I have an affinity with Hanger Lane all the same
I love its design
I love where it sits
Going south I know I am near excitement
Going north I know I am headed home
Even so it’s a loop
A paternoster
I feel the night before its day
Winter solstice
Round and around and around
Hanger Lane
Hanger Lane
Hanger Lane

The Hanger Lane gyratory system, near Wembley in west London, has been granted the dubious honour of being named Britain’s scariest junction.
Midlands drivers will not be shocked to learn that the famous – or perhaps infamous – Spaghetti Junction, in Birmingham, came second in the poll.

Spurs 5 Southampton 2

Harry Kane grabbed another hat-trick and broke the record for the most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year as Spurs thrashed Southampton at Wembley.

The Spurs and England striker headed home his 37th league goal of 2017 on 22 minutes to surpass Alan Shearer’s landmark, which was set during his time at Blackburn in 1995.

Kane then added two more either side of half-time to bring his total for the year – for both club and country – to 56, two more than Barcelona and Argentina striker Lionel Messi.

Before Kane’s third, Dele Alli had made it 3-0 on 49 minutes when he drilled in from outside the area, before setting up Son Heung-min two minutes later, who powered a confident finish past Fraser Forster.

Southampton, without top scorer Charlie Austin, got off the mark when Sofiane Boufal struck low under Hugo Lloris, and Dusan Tadic added a second with a lofted effort.

Despite a second-half recovery, Saints never looked like spoiling the Spurs party and have now gone a month without a win in the Premier League.

Spurs, meanwhile, replace Liverpool in fourth place in the table, with the Reds playing Swansea in Tuesday’s late kick-off.

It was an impressive display from Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but the game will always be remembered for Kane’s record-breaking day, as he cemented his status as one of the top flight’s most prolific strikers.

Speaking about his 22-year record being taken, Shearer tweeted: “You’ve had a magnificent 2017, Harry Kane. You deserve to hold the record of most Premier League goals in a calendar year. Well done and keep up the good work.”

Harry Kane’s record-breaking 2017

Kane reached his goal-scoring record in 36 games – six fewer than Shearer in 1995
The 24-year-old has scored more league goals this season than Bournemouth, West Brom, Swansea, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Huddersfield
He is the first player in Premier League history to score six hat-tricks in a single calendar year
Kane has scored eight Premier League hat-tricks, as many as Thierry Henry and Michael Owen – only Alan Shearer (11) and Robbie Fowler (9) have more in the competition.
Kane has scored 56 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham and England in 2017. He is Europe’s top scorer over the past 12 months in the five major countries (England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France)
The Spurs striker has now scored 96 Premier League goals for the club – one off Teddy Sheringham’s record

Dallas 12 Seahawks 21

With Season On The Line, Seahawks Show “This Team Is Not Going To Lie Down Easily” with their backs against the wall, the Seahawks showed, as they have so many times under Carroll, that they’re nothing if not resilient. Led by a defense that forced three turnovers and did not surrender a touchdown, the Seahawks kept their playoff hopes alive with a 21-12 victory over the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.

“Every time we get an opportunity, we want to play great defense like that, just like we did against Philly,” safety Earl Thomas said. “Coach Carroll challenged us last night, he was talking about two weeks ago, and we recreated that.”

Screenshot 2017-12-26 15.42.54Screenshot 2017-12-26 15.43.13

The Seahawks still need a win next week as well as a little bit of help to make the playoffs—a 10-6 record gets Seattle a Wild Card berth if Carolina wins at Atlanta—but regardless of what happens next Sunday, the Seahawks at least were able to show they have fight left in them, even after back-to-back losses, the second of which was one of the worst of the Carroll era.

“We’ve been doing this since I’ve been here the past seven years,” linebacker K.J. Wright said. “Whenever our backs are against the wall, we just find a way to bounce back. This team is not going to lie down easily. We could have easily taken the loss against the Rams, come back, pouted and moaned all throughout the week. But we are a group of guys that love to play ball and we know that we are a talented football team. So we came out and handled business today.”

Carroll noted after the game that his players “responded beautifully” to challenges of this week, be it bouncing back from a bad loss or just the challenges presented by a very talented opponent.

“I’m really proud of that win,” Carroll said. “Based on coming back from last week and not liking what happened, there weren’t very many people who thought we had a chance to play like that, so it was a really good football game. Dallas had everything to play for. They had all their guys. They were ready to go and jacked up, and we felt the same way on our end, so it was a real battle. The way the defense played all day long, not letting them in the end zone at any time—they were in the red zone a number of times—it was fantastic football.”

Screenshot 2017-12-26 15.44.24Screenshot 2017-12-26 15.44.33

The defense did a lot of things well, from making adjustments to slow Ezekiel Elliot after he got off to a hot start—Elliott finished with 97 yards on 24 carries, but 51 of those yards came in the first quarter—to being stingy in the red zone to pressuring Dak Prescott. But nothing made a bigger difference than the defense’s ability to create three turnovers: a Byron Maxwell forced fumble that set up Seattle’s first score, a Justin Coleman pick-six, and a K.J. Wright interception that the offense turned into another touchdown.

“A huge day turning the football over,” Carroll said. “When you get three turnovers you’re supposed to win. We know that, we always do. The turnovers were great. The knockout by Maxie was a beautiful play, just a picture-perfect play. The pick in the end zone by Justin Coleman, a great response to an opportunity, and then K.J.’s catch on the interception too, so all of those plays were huge.”

And while the defense was on top of its game throughout the afternoon, the offense was opportunistic on a day when yards and sustained drives were hard to come by. The Seahawks finished the game with just 136 yards, their lowest total since a 2013 win over the St. Louis Rams, but they did manage to convert two turnovers into touchdowns, including a 13-play, 79-yard drive that took more than six minutes off the clock.

“We just capitalized on those opportunities,” said receiver Doug Baldwin, who had one of Seattle’s two touchdown receptions.

Screenshot 2017-12-26 15.43.55Screenshot 2017-12-26 15.44.43

Baldwin had talked earlier in the week about his team responding to adversity, noting that what they were facing this week was a bit different than what they have gone through in past seasons, and he liked what he saw out of the team on Sunday.

“I thought we did extremely well,” Baldwin said. “We struggled out of the gate, but the resilience, the demeanor, the mindset, the vibe in the locker room, on the sideline, was that we were never out of it. A lot of young guys stepped up today. I thought the whole process for the past two weeks leading up to this game, we needed to grow up a little bit with a lot of the young guys we have who haven’t gone through this type of adversity before in the NFL. We needed to grow up and I thought for a huge part tonight we did that.”

Shotgun

Adrian Gurvitz

Far off in a distant land
A man lying dead in the sand
Lying by his side was a song
Written down on a parchment fair

Overgrown with aging hair
You could see this man died alone

From riding shotgun on the 4.42
From riding shotgun on the 4.42

Riding shotgun was his dream
But he’s fallen dead it seems
Riding shotgun on the 4.42

When the sun it got too hot
I was glad of what I’d got
Living on the food that I found
Twenty minutes left to go

Another town’s in sight you know
Think I’ll rest my boots while I can

From riding shotgun on the 4.42
From riding shotgun on the 4.42

Here comes Lucy Springer
You know that she’s a ringer
She’ll take you for a ride for awhile
You know she looks fancy

Much more slick than Nancy
You know you’ll have to pay for a smile

From riding shotgun on the 4.42
From riding shotgun on the 4.42

I know that I haven’t been mean
And I always kept my sixguns clean
And I feel I’m at the end of my road
I’ll make way for someone new

Do you think it could be you
As I lie face down dead in the road

Riding shotgun on the 4.42
Riding shotgun on the 4.42

Burnley 0 Spurs 3

Harry Kane equalled Alan Shearer’s 22-year-old record for the most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year as his hat-trick secured victory at Burnley.

The England international netted his 34th, 35th and 36th league goals of 2017 as Spurs moved up to fifth in the table.

Kane has one chance to break Shearer’s record, with Tottenham at home to out-of-form Southampton on Boxing Day.

The 24-year-old broke the deadlock at Turf Moor in the sixth minute, scoring from the spot after Spurs were awarded a controversial penalty when Kevin Long was adjudged to have fouled Dele Alli.

Kane made it 2-0 midway through the second half, racing on to Moussa Sissoko’s pass before sliding the ball past Burnley keeper Nick Pope.

He completed his hat-trick with his 15th Premier League goal of the season, tucking a clinical finish in at the far post.

The win moves Spurs to within a point of fourth-placed Liverpool, while Burnley drop to seventh.
